The law

FGM was made against the law in 2015.


The effect of wealth

Wealth does not make a significant difference to whether a girl has been affected by female genital mutilation - 51% from poorest and 45% from richest households are affected. It does not matter if the child is from a wealthy or poor household: FGM will affect them.


Women's views

It is estimated that 13% of girls and women who have been affected by female genital mutilation think it should end. In Sudan, it is 49%. In Kenya, it is 68% and Benin 91%.
