Emotional support

Psychological symptoms

Women who have had FGM may have experienced psychological symptoms such as:

Anxiety, irritability, nightmares, flashbacks, insomnia (unable to sleep), and problems with memory and concentration.

Associated symptoms

Some women also feel associated symptoms: depression, headaches, gastrointestinal complaints, aches and pains.

Specialist care

Specialised emotional support is available from some NHS Trusts. The Oxford Rose Clinic provides quality clinical and psychological support for you. This service is entirely confidential.

All health care related to FGM is free, regardless of a woman’s immigration status in the UK.
